File organization for your WordPress website. Keeping your WordPress Files Organized is an area that many people overlook when getting themselves all setup. So what are the issues I have run into when cleaning up websites and repairing them after a hack. Well one of the big things I run across is people placing files in the root area of WordPress that do not belong. what kind of issue has this led to easily hack files and getting content to show properly. Also another Issue I have seen is people keeping older versions of files there. This leads to hackable spots that won't’ be discovered quickly or easily when something goes wrong.
Another issue I see is folks setting up their uploads directory as collecting everything in one spot. instead of using the default year/month or a custom similar. What happens if everything is dumped into a single folder it makes it tough to move your site if/when the time comes, it also makes it hard to track an issue. When you see hundreds of files in one folder you might not see a file that does not belong.
The biggest thing I have noticed is that with folder/files outside of the standard WordPress layout it make cleaning up a site more of a chore than is necessary, now on the reverse it also allows hackers to know how your site is setup, though in my opinion this defect is minor compared to the benefits.
